Blessings, blessings and more blessings in the month of Ramadan, this is what we shall get when we offer obligatory deeds and good deeds during the month. Recitation of Quran in Ramadan is one such deed that brings about the pleasure of Allah because Allah sees that his creation is not only reading His words but also understanding them without the interruption and barrier of the shaytaan, which is locked up during the month. The Recitation of the Quran in Ramadan has special importance because it is during this month that it was revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) and became a source of complete guidance for us.

So we must imagine the month of Ramadan as a jackpot for us Muslims, the believers of Allah because Allah has promised that the reward for doing good in this month is utmost, so much so that it gives the believer a completely clean slate, erases all his sins and gives him an opportunity to start over. So why would we not want to take that? Why would we want to believe that our sins are past hope? We would certainly not!

Allah blesses the one who recites the Quran, infact there is a reward for every letter that is uttered out of the mouth of the believer of Islam and the Quran. The Holy Prophet  (PBUH) said, about the recitation of the Quran,  “Whoever draws near to Allah during it (Ramadan) with a single characteristic from the characteristics of (voluntary) goodness, he is like whoever performs an obligatory act in other times. And whoever performs an obligatory act during it, he is like whoever performed seventy obligatory acts in other times.” (Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, no. 1887)

So 70 times the reward per letter of the Quran, Alhamdullillah what a reward indeed! And for those who struggle to recite the Quran, the reward becomes doubled! This is because Allah, Subhanwatallah does not judge on the quality of the recitation rather His criteria of judging is very different for the criteria of humans. Allah , the Most Beneficent, looks at the level of effort of the believer and rewards them accordingly. So if a person is slow, stutters but is making his utmost effort to read the Quran correctly, Allah will reward him with greater.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said about the person who struggles: “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Recitation of the Quran is important and blessed in Ramadan also because as it was brought down upon the holy Prophet (PBUH) in this month, Jibreel would visit the Prophet (PBUH) every night in Ramadan and study the word of Allah with him. On the night of Al-Qadr, the Quran was recited with utmost pleasure and concentration as these were the virtuous nights, ones that would give the highest humber of blessings.  This automatically made the month of Ramadan a blessed one indeed.

Reading the Quran during Ramadan brings about a great sense of responsibility towards Allah which we do not realize at other times. As we delve deeper into the words of Allah we realize that the Quran is a constant reminder that we must act according to the commandments of Allah, not do sin, backbite, tell lies, especially during this month as we seek to guard our fasts. And what better way to do that than to spend your fast in the remembrance of Allah and letting the Quran act as a reminder while you are completely pure and devoid of evil.  Allah says in the Quran: "A Book, which We have revealed to you in order that its verses may be pondered upon, so that the people of understanding may be reminded."  That is what Allah hopes for mankind to achieve, a constant reminder of their faith, of the Oneness of Allah and of the Day of Judgment, all of this is mentioned in the Quran.
