Day and Night in the Quran

The whole world and all its affairs, all its workings, and everything that goes with it is mentioned in the Quran. The mechanics of every night that proceeds every day is mentioned in this book as Allah tells us again and again that he has created the day and the night and that he is Supreme while the rest of us are insignificant.

Allah seeks to tell his creation by mentioning in the Quran about the falling of night and the coming of day that He alone is in control and no other being is with Him helping his do so. The heavens and the earth are all His creation and He alone has the power to bring about night after day. Allah says in the Quran: “He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night.” (Surah Az-Zumar, verse 5). Have you ever in your whole life woken up from sleep and realized it’s not day time? Have you ever had a long day at work and see that night has not come even after hours? Certainly not. Because the power and control of all of that is in Allah’s hand, a power of which He keeps reminding us again and again. In His words. In the Quran.

So the Quran becomes the greatest book that explains to us how much Allah is in control and how humans cannot do anything unless Allah gives them the power to do so. Allah says in the Quran that not a leaf falls from the tree except that He knows of it. He also says that humans cannot even create the wing of a fly. But Allah? Allah can create night and day and alternate between them. Allah can do it. And so He puts it in the Quran that we may understand.

Another instance where Allah has mentioned about night and day in the Quran is “and His is the alternation of night and day.” 23:80 and again when He says “He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon. Each running (on a fixed course) for an appointed term. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.” (39:5)

Isn’t it enough evidence that Allah has given us in His own words? That we are to obey Him and seek His forgiveness and seek His rewards? The Being that can manage the Universe and every living thing that it contains is no doubt worthy of our worship. So read the Quran and learn the powers of Allah Subhanwatallah. Know that He alone is the Creator, Manager and so much more of the Universe and He alone can bring about day so that you may go to work and He alone brings about night so that you may go to sleep. And know that Allah never sleeps. Be it night or day.
