Justice in the Quran

Allah has spoken in the Quran about almost all things in the world and given us a complete guidance on how to live our lives by following the principles of the Quran. Whether it be love, marriage, charity, relatives, neighbours, your family and other things like theft, honesty and justice. Justice is a term that Allah has mentioned numerous times in the Quran because he Himself is the most just Being ever. Allah shows us justice and will continue to show us justice till we reach our final destination, either heaven or hell. Allah says again and again in the Quran to be just in our dealings with people, parents, friends and all other circumstances and never ever to rob a person of their rights. This is because when Allah’s creation is just Allah will reciprocate the deeds of the person. Allah says in the Quran “Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.(Quran 49:9)” When we use the term justice it does not mean to only show fairness in a trial of court. Rather Allah means for us to be fair in absolutely all walks of our lives. Even in the smallest of the small decisions. If a sibling is fighting with another sibling, we should be just as a parent in diffusing the tension, if a mother-in-law is mentally abusing a daughter –in-law we must be just as a husband and diffuse the tensions.

Justice hence should be portrayed by Muslims in all walks of life and is very specially mentioned by Allah in the Quran again and again. Allah says in the Quran, “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.” (4:135)

In the above verse of the Quran Allah is very clear that we should always follow the decision which is right no matter who we have to go against. We should be fair in our dealings and honest in our judgments. The Quran has very strict instructions on how to follow this. Allah says in the Quran that if we are honest and just in our dealings , He will give us numerous blessings, ones that we cannot imagine and if we are unfair to someone then we will be cursed. So let’s make it a pledge to follow fairness and honesty in all our decisions and hence follow the Quran, the word of Allah.
