What is Love?

What is Love?

True love is to blindly believe in Allah and submitting yourself to the Creator. We can love people around ourselves too but we cannot submit ourselves to any human. Human is not worthy to have submission of another human; and we submit ourselves to humans then we would be surely taken as for granted.

Therefore, in this world, we could love others, respect others, and take care of each other but we cannot fully submit ourselves to any human. Loving own self is very important than loving other people. But when it comes to loving our Creator then we loves Him more than we love ourselves because we have this trust that if we love Allah more than own-self, He would love us and bless us more.

Love of Religion

Only when a person deliberately commits to accepting the principles of religion and does not disagree to them, they can develop faith and belief. In other ways, one can only have faith if they truly love their religious views, not merely when they become familiar with them.

As Allah has stated in the Holy Quran:

“And, although their hearts were convinced the signs were true, they still denied them wrongfully and arrogantly. See then what the end of the corruptors was”. [27: 14]

The above verse has clearly mentioned that there are ample of sign which are enough for us to belief in Allah and these signs are way more clear to love and following the teachings of Islam. If Allah has blessed us with so much in life then we are no one to deny the existence of only One Creator. If we enjoy every blessing given by Allah and even still we are not thankful to all blessings then we are indeed deserving of punishment.

Allah says in Holy Quran, in verse 165 of Surah Al-Baqarah:

“Still there are some who take others as Allah’s equal—they love them as they should love Allah—but the ˹true˺ believers love Allah even more. If only the wrongdoers could see the ˹horrible˺ punishment ˹awaiting them˺, they would certainly realize that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is indeed severe in punishment [2: 165] ”.

Loving the Relationships in Life

Allah has never restricted believers to take a corner from the world and only love Him. Islam is the religion of peace, justice, unity and love. Therefore, Allah has placed rights in every relationship and no person is deprived of rights. Allah has asked us to stay united and live with peace and love with each other.

However, no worldly love could be place competitive with the love of Allah (The Creator) because He is the one who is “All Giving” and “All Knowing” and no one is ever be compared with the one Who knows everything and Who gives us everything.

If anyone in this world could do even 1% of what Allah does then that person could be deserving of the love which Creator deserves.

Allah says in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 24:

“Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If your parents and children and siblings and spouses and extended family and the wealth you have acquired and the trade you fear will decline and the homes you cherish—˹if all these˺ are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and struggling in His Way, then wait until Allah brings about His Will. Allah does not guide the rebellious people [9: 24] .”

Islam holds that one rationale for loving God is that He is the most important, utmost complete and most perfect entity that a person could ever imagine. As a result, man simply loves God because man strives for values, beauties, and guidance.

Quran says about the uniqueness and oneness of Allah many times and Quran also counts things which no human can think of but those things are done by only Almighty Allah.

Following verse is stated from the Surah An-Nahl:

“If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful [16: 18]

Halal and Haram Love of human

Halal love is every that love which is encouraged in Islam which includes loving your family, relatives, and spouses. On the other hand, haram love has no concept in Islam. Love is always pure and could be done in halal ways. Those people who claim that they are in love when they are indulged in sexual activities without Nikah, extra marital affairs, or any other relationship which is discouraged in Islam, these people are not only misunderstanding the concept of love rather they are also committing unlawful and sinful act.

People should only perform those acts which are asked by Allah since only those acts are beneficial for human which are encouraged in Islam. Allah does not stop human from fulfilling any desire but since Islam is the most legal, respectful, and disciplined religion; this is why Allah has made legal ways of fulfilling humanly desires. Indeed, these legal ways are in favor of human kind.

Allah has encouraged love in spouses and for this love, Allah has stated in Quran that:

“And it is among His signs that He has created for you wives from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquility in them, and He has created love and kindness between you. Surely in this there are signs for a people who reflect [30: 21] ”.

At another place in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says:

“Your spouses are a garment (comfort, chastity, and protection) for you as you are for them [2: 187]

Allah has made some laws which we need to follow to lead a happy and prosperous life. For example, if Allah says that Allah deserves the love which must be above every worldly thing, this does not mean to leave the world and stay isolated. This means to obey Allah and His every command while also balancing the worldly relationships.

Hence, if prohibits sexual activities and intimacy before marriage, then Allah encourages these acts after marriage. This shows that Allah has set some rules and laws which further shows that Islam is the most disciplined and logical religion.
