Oneness and Supremacy of Allah in the Quran
Allah is the One and Only God and indeed the Most Supreme. The Oneness and Supremacy of Allah has been mentioned in abundant places in the Quran, such that it has been ingrained in the minds of the true Muslims for more than fourteen centuries. So much so that Allah has mentioned the inclusion of another God with him as “shirk”, the greatest of all sins and with the greatest punishment for those who believe in it, except for those who repent.
When you read the Quran the Oneness and Supremacy mentioned by Allah in it, it may give you goose bumps, such is the power of Allah’s word in the Quran. Allah says:
“Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy - none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds - none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. (Surat Fatir, 35:2)
This verse is so powerful in that it not only explains that Allah is ONE by saying ‘Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy - none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds - none can release it’ but also talks about the MERCY of Allah. There is no being in this world who is as Merciful as Allah. Similarly there is NO being in this world who is as Exalted as Allah, and NONE as wise as Him. So many attributes which ONLY Allah possesses are mentioned in one single verse in the Quran. And there are many many more! Yet humans continue to stray.
The greatest and most apparent read in the Quran about the Oneness and Supremacy of Allah is the beginning verse of Bismillah which translates as “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful” the adjectives here used to describe Him are singular. He is ONE.
Allah says in the Quran about His Oneness "Say: He, Allah, is One. Allah is He on Whom all depend. He begets not, nor is He begotten; And none is like Him". (Chapter 112). Consider the above verse. In our daily lives, is there another being who we can completely depend on? We depend on our friends, our family, but a time comes when even they turn us down. But Allah NEVER turns us down. He never forgets us. He is ONLY one who we can depend on, every second of every day for as long as we live. He is the only Being and NOONE can be like Him. Is this not enough proof of the Magnificence and Supremacy of Allah.
"If there had been in them (the heaven and the earth) other gods beside Allah, then surely both would have gone to ruin." 21:23
It is noticed that Allah mentions Oneness of Himself along with his Supremacy as they go hand in hand. Allah says: “Surely Allah alone is the creator of all things and he is the One, the Most Supreme (13:17)” A being that can create the heaven and the earth and every living creature in it in days is ofcourse the MOST Supreme Being ever because Man “cannot even create the wing of a fly”. Only the ONE being can do that. The One and Supreme Being mentioned again and again in the Quran.
